Australia encourages its international students to apply for permanent residency immediately after they have completed their studies in Australia and offer the following sub-categories specifically aimed at international graduate students.
In recognition that not all international students will be eligible for permanent residency immediately after they graduate the 485 Graduate (Provisional) visa is available to give students the extra time they need to gain eligibility for residency.
This visa is aimed at International Students who have completed their study in Australia and are eligible to apply for permanent residency and can meet the 120 point passmark.
This visa is aimed at International Students who have completed their study in Australia, who are eligible to apply for permanent residency and have suitable Australian relatives to sponsor them. You must meet the passmark of 100 points.
487 Skilled Regional (Onshore) In this onshore sub-category you must be sponsored by a suitable Australian relative living in a Designated Area or nominated by a State/Territory government and you must be able to achieve the 100 point pass mark for this visa.
This visa is a new temporary visa for Engineering graduates of recognised overseas universities with skills in demand in Australia.
